Obituary for Claudia Weaver
Claudia Dean Weaver, age 76, passed away peacefully June 14, 2020 in Tucson, Arizona. She was born July 22, 1943 in Detroit, Michigan, to Claude and Barbara Phillips, who preceded her in death, along with her brother Douglas.
Claudia spent her childhood in Detroit, where after graduating high school, she married Hugh Dickerson Jr. They had three wonderful children together.
While still in the Detroit area, Claudia started working with computers for the IRS, a field she would work in the majority of her career. After moving to the Dallas, Texas area in the 70’s, she began and completed her college education at the University of Texas at Dallas, acquiring a Master’s in Business Administration - all while continuing to work and raise a family with her second husband John Benke.
In the mid 80’s Claudia briefly lived in San Bernardino, California before returning to Dallas, Texas and marrying Dennis Weaver, hence her current name. She then moved to Tucson, Arizona in the late 90’s, where she ultimately retired and took her aging parents into her home.
Claudia was an avid reader! The subject matter was of no concern; she would consume books, magazines, newspapers, and other reading material. In Tucson, she belonged to a Sci-Fi book club. She also volunteered as a tutor for school-aged English Language Learners. Claudia had other passions too! In her younger days she loved to roller skate, play tennis, bowl and run, even completing half marathons. As she got older, her interests turned to biking and hiking, which made Tucson a perfect fit for her lifestyle. She won awards in the women’s division of the El Tour de Tucson bicycle competitions and always strived to surpass her own goals! Claudia loved the groups of people she met and befriend and the conversations they had. She also loved to travel and embraced numerous opportunities to see places around the world. In her down time, she enjoyed puzzles, board and card games, with “Oh Hell!” being one of her favorites.
Claudia is survived by her daughter and husband Dianne and Jim Kolb; son and wife Hugh and Julia Dickerson; daughter and husband Michelle and George Torres; her sister and husband Irene and Larry Twork; brother and wife Clifford and MaryJo Phillips; sister and husband Nora and John Grabowski; sister Loretta Henze; her 8 grandchildren; plus 6 great grandchildren and her many nephews and nieces. All of these she loved and touched deeply.
