Obituary for Eldon L. McLaughlin

Eldon Leroy McLaughlin, Jr.
September 17, 1959 - September 21, 2019

Eldon, 60, a native Tucsonan, is survived by wife, Christine Mondrawickas, his life partner for 29 years, and his furry friend, Wolfi, the family Dachshund; mother, Dolores Mano, Tucson; father, Eldon L. McLaughlin, Sr., Vista, CA; brother, Mark McLaughlin (Sylvie), Tucson; uncles Gordon Gumble, Golden, CO, Roger Gumble (Judy), Albuquerque, NM, and Don Schmitt, Lacon, IL; nephews Colt McLaughlin (Kara), Chad McLaughlin, Jared McLaughlin, Dean McLaughlin (Genna), two grand-nephews, and two grand-nieces, all of Tucson. He is also survived by cousins in Colorado, Missouri, Illinois and New Mexico.

Eldon loved Tucson and the beautiful Sonoran Desert. A dedicated hiker, he explored the Catalina Mountains hundreds of times with his friends. He was fascinated with the abundant wildlife he found on every hiking trip. An avid fisherman, he fished the lakes south and east of Tucson on fun-filled trips with Chris and his dachshunds through the years. He had an enthusiasm for learning, and could build or fix anything he set his mind to. He spent hours reading about a subject until he knew it thoroughly. In fact, when he was a kid he read the whole encyclopedia. He had a passion for firearms from an early age and was a collector throughout his life. He was a generous and precious human being who was taken from this life too early. His friends and family will miss him, but he will always be remembered for the unique individual he was.

Visitation will be held from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm, Friday, October 11, 2019 at Abbey Funeral Chapel, 3435 N. 1st Avenue, Tucson AZ 85719. The memorial service will be private.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the ALS Association or to a charity of your choice.
